Stairway to bookshop heaven?

So finally the day arrived… Melbourne is out of lockdown..

What did i do? Well i had a coffee and a cigar, one of my little pleasures every so often.

Not all shops had opened up, most expect to be open by next Monday, but none the less I poked my head into the Salvos in Frankston, I found some great books for next time I visit, some WW2 Books, there was a small collection in the “Special” Glass cabinet. It felt good just to see and feel the renewed life in the recently desolate little suburb of Frankston.

Anyway, at the Salvos store, now a double story shop with the book section on the second floor, a quite cute use of the stairs with book titles and authors painted on each stop, leading to the book section, although it’s not the largest book section I have encountered, it is decent and there is a regular flow of new books.

Since the Frankston Savers store closed a few years ago, this has become the prime thrift experience within 5-10km of the Frankston CBD. The great part is the Salvos help a great deal many people in need, and I have no qualms looking for stock here, every purchase goes to feeding or clothing someone. The prices are higher than a lot of other places, but they are acceptable.

Apart from the War books, there was not much on offer, considering the store has been closed for 4 months, due to the Covid situation, I was not expecting much. But I did come away with a Steve Jobs Biography and a Tim Winton Hard Cover. This is part of my weekly tour as I am in the Frankston CBD every few days.

If you are into your vintage clothing etc, the whole bottom floor is devoted to that, and upstairs apart from the books there is a small electronic section, furniture and household items, I recommend giving this shop a browse if you are that way inclined.

Tomorrow, I plan to go a little farther out, about 5-10km out into Carrum, I have some business there, and there are 3 Great Thrift stores in the area, although one is closed until Monday.

As always, keep an eye on the Blog for more treasure hunts and myself promoting various charities found during my travels.
